Some Dutch talent
Just a short announcement for everybody visiting that wonderful north European nation: "Holland" anytime soon. starting oct. 18, at the Utrecht Besselaar gallery there will be a show of the young Dutch painter Onno Lolkema. He may not yet have the fame of other Dutch talent such as Folkert de Jong or Aaron van Erp, but we predict a glorious future. We caught a glimpse of his work at the Open Art Fair and we highly recommend it.
Go Singapore
Singapore is more than just a stop on your way to Sydny or Melbourne. The Singapore Art Museum has paintings of almost every painter that will matter in ten years time. Since they will probably all be Chinese. And we might have a small say in what South Pacific artst will rosk the international art world next. Cast your vote in the APBF Singnature Art Prize through this link.
Fired up, ready to go
This thing hasn't even actually begun yet, but we know that that a lot of you out there are already worn out by the presidential race thing. Politics just isn't for everybody. However; we would like to remind you that we're talking about the election of the most powerful person in the world here. Since we are neutral we would like to point you towards the DigitalGravel homepage to get your artful political juices flowing again. Perhaps ordering a barrack t-shirt will get you...
Bring home the Bacon
Agreed, CultBlender should be here to inform you about the cool up and coming undergroudn artists that will not become famous for years (if ever). There is absolutely no reason for us to inform you on famous dead painters exhibiting in the biggest venues on the globe. That's why we won't tell you about the Francis Bacon expo at Tate Modern for the remainder of 2008. (BTW according to artfino.com, Francis hated the work of Matisse... how revealing!)
Heroic Poseur
One of CultBlender favourite artists, Joey Monsoon, has just anounced a new show. Friday, August 29th is the opening reception for his show "Heroic Poseur" at GRIP Technology in Columbus, Ohio. The show includes all new work, created this summer. For those of your that are in that area around that time; please stop by between 7pm and 10pm on 8/29 to see the goods.
Work with thom
We know that there are at least one or two of our visitors that enjoy a bit of creative copying and pasting with music and sounds. But how about reworking an entire video? And we're not talking a music video by just any old artist here. Radiohead has put the source code of their video 'House of Cards' online as a sort of 'open source' thing. And we just love open source. Have a look and a go!
Biennale Down Under
You go to Melbourne for Fitzroy and to Sydney for the biennale. For art-afficonados traveling downunder these weeks, Sydney is a real must-go. Looking at the list of participitaing artist (among which, Vincent Award favourite of 2008, Francis Alÿs) and scanning blogs and newssites for articles, the Arty Ozzies did it again. Are you going? We're jealous. You can make it up to us by sending in a review...
Art in ... Sheffield?
Their art scene is probabaly not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Sheffield. It may be 'mining' or 'industry', or even 'The Full Monty', but not 'art'. However, the art scene in Sheffield is vey vibrant and the city has many galleries, studios and museums of international quality. See for yourself? Go visit their 'Yes, No & Other Options 08', Art Biennale. The organising SCAF had put together an artwalk so won't miss a thing.

Stranger Festival
As the writer Paulo Coelho wrote:'Europe is like a big family with traumas'. And how do you treat a trauma? Right, with therapy. A cool project for bringing Europe together and working on a shared cultural identity is the Stranger Festival. Creative kids from all around Europe (15-15 yrs) make one minute long films about their lives. This may sound like a lot of political boo-yah, but have a look at their site, there is some very cool stuff there. (Beware: external link!)
